1964 - 1970 Circle as Symbol
The triple spiral engraved in the Megalithic burial chamber of New Grange, Co. Meath, along with ogham, burial stones and crosses strewn across our countryside, reflect their Palaeolithic link with the power and presence of Stone, Animal and Circle, as great symbolic strands in expressing the sacredness in which nature and the Universe were held as humankind searched for meaning in existence, from as early, in some countries, as 50,000 years BC.

I took this print 55 years ago from the burial chamber at New Grange. A most helpful gentleman from the OPW gave me access to it’s interior and light box and information on the whereabouts of dolmens, tombs and stone crosses for a trip I was undertaking to sketch, photograph and study ‘Early Stonework in Ireland’.
‘Planet’, Pastel
One of a number of sketches, drawings and paintings of prisms and circular designs from the late 60’s that influenced sculptures and paintings, some of which survive.
Drawing in black and white, New Grange.

‘Interactive’, screen-print, late 60’s
One of a number of screen prints inspired by early Irish standing stones and awareness of nature and timelessness.
